Your First Visit
Before your first acupuncture appointment, I will ask you to complete an intake and consent form. The form has sections to put your issues you are coming in for treatment, and there is a section to input your insurance information in as well. I will review your initial intake and consent form prior to you coming in for your first treatment.
When you get to my clinic, we will discuss your condition, and I will examine your pulse and tongue, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. I will also go over what you should expect during your treatment. The acupuncture points I choose will depend on your condition, but you can expect approximately 20 needles on your first treatment. Once the needles are inserted, I will leave you to lie comfortably for 20-30 minutes with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment to be deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time.
For your first treatment please wear clothing where I can access the area where you are having issues at. I will also add points to your neck, head, arms, and legs to help with your treatment. The points on the head and neck are there to help calm you while you are on laying down on the treatment table.
Are you afraid of needles? Don't worry. I deal with this issue quite often with new patients. I have techniques which help patients feel comfortable. I will not go outside your comfort zone. My goal with every new patient is to give them the best treatment they can get with the least amount of discomfort possible. I always want my patients to have a great first treatment experience.
Are you worried the needles will hurt? Many patients report they don't feel most of the needles being inserted. If you do feel the needle being inserted, it feels like a small ant bite. After insertion of the needle, there should be no pain where the needle was inserted.
